Propshafts, universal joints, drive flanges and half shafts take every bit of torque the engine makes, and they fail with a clunk, a vibration or a sudden loss of drive. Most of it is cheap to replace before it fails and expensive after. The Freelander 1 runs an IRD, a viscous coupling and a rear diff in one line, and all three live or die by whether the four tyres match.

Which version to buy

OE Supplier is made by the firm that supplies the factory, in its own box rather than a dealer box. Same part, same line, typically 30 to 40 per cent cheaper than the dealer.
