The differentials on these vehicles are strong when they are fed the right oil and are not asked to do things they were never built for, like big tyres and a heavy right foot on a locked centre diff. The Discovery 3 and 4 and the Sport L320 rear electronic locking diff is a known failure; the Defender Rover diff breaks shafts before it breaks gears. Everything here says what it is rated for and what it is not. The Discovery 1 shares its chassis design and drivetrain with the Defender and the Range Rover Classic, and it rusts in the same places.
