Freelander 1 Complete Driveline Overhaul

Complete Driveline Overhaul for the Freelander 1: the transfer unit, propshaft, rear drive unit and every driveline oil, done once and done together.

The IRD, or power transfer unit on the later cars, takes drive from the gearbox to the propshaft. On the Freelander 1 it fails because the viscous coupling in the propshaft line seizes and fights it, and the commonest cause of that is one tyre different from the other three. On the Freelander 2, Evoque and Discovery Sport the unit runs hot, the oil breaks down, and the bearings and seals go. Every unit here comes with the advice that stops it happening again, which is four matching tyres at matching pressures and an oil change the factory schedule does not ask for. The Freelander 1 runs an IRD, a viscous coupling and a rear diff in one line, and all three live or die by whether the four tyres match.
