The 2.7 and 3.0 V6 diesels in the Discovery 3 and 4, the Sport and the later L322 can spin a bearing and break the crankshaft, which is an engine out job and the single largest bill these vehicles produce. The early signs are low oil pressure warnings, a knock at idle and metal in the oil. These packages rebuild the engine properly with the revised parts, rather than dropping in a used engine with the same history. The Discovery 1 shares its chassis design and drivetrain with the Defender and the Range Rover Classic, and it rusts in the same places.

Which version to buy

Remanufactured is stripped to the casting, measured, rebuilt with new bearings seals and wear parts and rig tested, with a surcharge refunded on your old unit. New Unit is a brand new unit rather than an exchange, for when your old one is past rebuilding or you cannot be without the vehicle while we assess the core.
